Frequently Asked Questions

Program suitability and safety

Moon Maidens is a developmental rites-of-passage program and is not a substitute for medical, psychological, psychiatric, or specialist therapeutic care. Where a participant’s needs are assessed as falling outside the scope of the program, Lisa may request further discussion, recommend additional support, or defer/decline participation in order to protect the wellbeing of the child and the group.

When is my child ready to learn about menarche and begin the rites of passage pathway?

No one knows your child better than their parent or guardian. In many ways, you will know. Readiness is not only about age — it is also about development, temperament, and where your child is in herself.

Some children begin to step away from the imaginal world of early childhood and show signs of greater self-awareness, sensitivity, curiosity about their body, and a growing interest in what it means to grow up. Rudolf Steiner described this shift as the Rubicon crossing — a developmental threshold where a child begins to experience themselves and the world differently. When this shift is underway, it is often a good time to begin gently learning about the body, cycles, and the journey toward womanhood.

Signs your child may be ready include:
• increasing curiosity about puberty, bodies, or periods
• early developmental changes in body or mood
• a growing capacity for reflection and deeper conversation
• wanting more independence while still needing guidance and reassurance
• an openness to learning in a respectful, age-appropriate way

Every child is different. Some are ready earlier, some later. The aim is not to rush them, but to meet them at the threshold with good information, reverence, and support.
