Mandorla Rites – Moon Maidens

Foundational coming-of-age pathway for younger girls

Program Description

A nature-based rites of passage journey for girls aged approximately 8–12.  Mandorla Rites Moon Maidens is a gentle and meaningful coming-of-age program that supports girls to know themselves more deeply, trust their inner wisdom, care for their bodies, and grow in confidence, belonging, and self-respect.

Across 13 months, girls gather in small group circles (most circles are 2 hours long) and are guided through storytelling, ritual, reflection, creative activities, journalling, body literacy, and time in nature.

At the heart of the program is helping each girl build her inner temple — a strong foundation of self-knowledge, emotional awareness, body wisdom, and self-leadership.

What we explore

  • Belonging to nature – building a real relationship with the natural world through sit spots, totems, and seasonal awareness
    • Inner wisdom and intuition – learning to listen to the quiet voice within and trust her own knowing
    • Self-knowledge and confidence – understanding who she is, her gifts, and how she moves through the world
    • Cycles and change – exploring the rhythms of nature, the moon, and the changing female body
    • Body wisdom and sacred self-care – learning how to care for her body with respect and understanding
    • Emotional awareness and clear seeing – recognising emotions as messengers and what they are asking for
    • Friendship, kindness, boundaries, and self-respect – learning how to be in healthy relationship with self and others

What we do in circle

  • Each circle is experiential, creative, and grounded in real-life skills. Across the year, your daughter will:

  • Explore plant and animal totems to deepen her connection to nature
    • Create meaningful pieces such as a clay goddess, dream pillow, and manifestation board
    • Learn through ancient myths and storytelling that reflect the journey into womanhood
    • Be introduced to Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine elements in simple, age-appropriate ways
    • Learn the importance of having her voice heard and speaking truth in circle
    • Practise sitting in sacred circle — listening, witnessing, and being witnessed
    • Develop emotional awareness — understanding what feelings are communicating about needs
    • Explore positive body image and self-worth beyond appearance
    • Cultivate gratitude and positive priming practices
    • Learn how to be kind, inclusive, and supportive within a group

  • Each Maiden receives a Moon Maidens journal with worksheets, reflections, and a special place to record and honour her first bleed.

Practical and nature-based experiences

  • Archery session at Hoddywells Archery
    • Orienteering and navigation skills
    • Time in nature, observation, and seasonal awareness

Mother–Daughter connection

At key points in the journey, mothers and daughters come together to:

• Share what they are learning and noticing
• Explore what they want for each other during this transition
• Create meaningful items together, such as a period tracker bracelet

At Beltaine, mothers are invited to join their daughters in a beautiful threshold ceremony and celebration, where this stage of life is witnessed and honoured in community.

Program format

  • 13-month in-person journey some with the Mother/Female Guardian and a Celebration with Father or Male Guardian
    • Small-group circles
    • Most sessions are 2 hours long
    • Blend of ritual, reflection, creative expression, and nature connection
